ParentingFamily Forward understands the challenges of parentingThe Family Forward program teaches an understanding of the challenges of parenting. A nonprofit organization committed to strengthening families and promoting family stability, Family Forward offers educational programs and Parents Anonymous groups through a diverse network of partner agencies in communities throughout Texas. Based in Austin, the organization began in 1979 as a Texas Parents Anonymous affiliate offering Parents Anonymous groups and a parent crisis hotline. After identifying the need for a complementary course to provide specific parenting tools, the organization formulated its highly acclaimed Middle Way Family Education Program. Family Forward also provides customized programming for groups that include divorcing parents, teachers, families whose children are involved with the juvenile justice system and pre-release parents in the Texas Prison System. |
This is a six-week, 1 hour each session class for
parents who need to learn basic parenting skills. The class is intended for those
needing fundamental skills, including ages and stages, child development,
self-esteem, stresses in parenting and discipline techniques. One goal of this
class is to expose participants to a variety of techniques that will enable them
to better manage their child’s behavior. Parenting 101 provides a safe,
non-threatening atmosphere for parents to discuss parenting issues.
Parenting 101 Class Schedule: Thursdays, 11:30-1 p.m.
This class includes curricula for parents, teens
and three levels of children’s programming. It is a 15-week program
combining 10 weeks of structured learning (2.5 hours) with five weeks of
support group (1.5) participation. The Middle Way parenting program is designed
to help parents discover the balance necessary to be loving and responsive
to their children. The curriculum meets parents where they are and
gives them an opportunity to voice anger, frustrations and concerns. It very
quickly invites them to make the changes they need to make as parents in
order to affect change in their children. It is a communication-based program
that supports the self-control. The Middle Way for children has age-appropriate
learning that parallels that of the parents’ program.
Middle Way Class Schedule: Tuesdays, 6:30-8:30 p.m. (Midland); Thursdays, 6-8:30 p.m. (Odessa).
This class is a 6-hour session designed to help parents raise self-confident,
motivated and self-disciplined children. The first half
— love — is essential to parenting. Love means empowering your
children to make their own decisions, to live with their own mistakes and
to grow through the consequences. The second half — logic — centers
on the consequences themselves. Most decisions and mistakes lead to logical
consequences. Parenting with Love and Logic helps parents empower their children
and helps them to retain healthy control without anger, threats or power
struggles.
Classes: Thurs, July 6th Classes are FREE of Charge. |
