The Kids First Program

Kids First is a program of Centers for Children and Families that is designed to maintain consistency during times of separation and divorce.

Kids First provides a relaxed, comfortable setting where, under the supervisionof trained volunteers, non-custodial parents can have positive and productive visits with their children.

How Kids First Works

Clients are typically referred to the program by a family court judge. Self-referred clients are accepted.

Both parents must call to schedule an introductory appointment with the program coordinator. The coordinator will schedule each parent for separate appointments and will then make arrangements for visitation times after reviewing the court order.

Games and toys are provided during visitations to promote child-parent interaction during visits.

The coordinator works with the parents to help establish a trusting relationship with the child or children.

Supervised Visitation

Supervised visitations are monitored visits between children and their non-custodial parents. Rooms are filled with age appropriate toys for parents to engage in activities with their children and every effort is made to provide a relaxed environment. A neutral person will monitor the visits, ensuring the emotional and physical safety of those involved. Supervised visitations are normally outlined in the court order.

Supervised Exchanges

Supervised exchanges allow parents to exchange possession in a neutral, non-threatening setting. Children benefit from a continued relationship with both parents without witnessing unhealthy confrontations and stress between parents. Supervised exchanges are normally outlined in the court order.
